The world of my imagination has long sought a childlike view of the life I perceive around me, creating characters of animals, objects and the things that can create a wry smile and a warm feel to your heart
Early On
Early on, I fell in love with the idea of seeing characteristics in the people I saw around me, working in an Off license while studying, I saw the stereotypes of people and what they used to buy. The ‘Lager Lout’ to the old man and his Bitter, ‘Drinks like a Fish’ I came up with stylized drawings turning the characteristics into the products themselves, now my love of animals has taken over to cats and creatures creating personas for them and their endearing ways of which I create in Art & Ceramics.
However I’ve always been torn with the ‘serious side’ of my work, fascinated by not only the sea, its wild almost emotional nature but rock formations, strength, form, shape and structure, it’s capability to bring your imagination to amazing places and emotions, the curves and contours of the human body. So I continue to explore both sides that combine into my very own unique style. Art as they say ‘is a journey’.
Current
Recently, I have returned to Ceramics joining the West Street Potters at Farnham Pottery, I studied at ‘A’ Level way back in 1990 at Southdowns College of F.E, but I love the strength and versatility of the media and the shapes I can make.
This has created a 3D aspect to my original varied painting skills, mainly hand building and sculpting with clay, learning new skills of glazing and firing the work, to creating experiments in colour from a painting perspective, I enjoy the chemistry to the horror and exaltation of ‘not being in control’, due to the ‘Kiln Gods’ and what happens in firing!
